Biogas
BUILDING, MANAGING AND MAINTENANCE OF BIOGAS PLANTS
Driving a sustainable FUTURE
At Verxo we offer a full range of services related to biogas, a renewable energy source that plays an essential role in the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy matrix. Our experience and commitment to sustainability allow us to provide comprehensive solutions for the production, management and efficient use of biogas.
What is Biogas?
Biogas is a renewable energy source produced from the decomposition of organic matter in the absence of oxygen, a process known as anaerobic digestion.
This energy source contains mainly methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), and is obtained from a wide variety of organic matter sources, such as food waste, manure, sewage sludge and other organic waste.
Biogas is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels and plays a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
How is Biogas obtained?
Organic waste collection
Organic waste, such as manure, food waste and sewage sludge, is collected and stored appropriately.
Anaerobic digestion
The organic waste is fed into an anaerobic digester, where specialised bacteria break down the organic matter under oxygen-free conditions, generating biogas.
Purification
The resulting biogas may contain impurities such as carbon dioxide and other unwanted gases. A purification process is carried out to increase its methane content and convert it into high quality biomethane.
Storage and use
Biogas or biomethane is stored and used to generate electricity, heat or as a fuel in various applications.
Types of biogas plants
We offer a variety of biogas plant solutions to suit the specific needs of our customers.
The types of biogas plants we offer include:
Continuous digestion plants
Plants that operate continuously, converting organic waste into biogas on a continuous basis.
Batch reactor plants
Installations that work in batch cycles, allowing them to be more flexible and versatile in the management of waste streams.
Co-digestion plants
Plants that combine different types of organic waste to maximise biogas production.
Biomethane Plants
Plants specialising in the production of biomethane, a purified form of biogas that meets natural gas quality standards.
Small-scale biogas plants
Installations designed for communities, farms or smaller scale industrial applications.
Portable Biogas Plants
Transportable plants that can treat organic waste in remote or temporary locations.
Advantages of Biogas
Emission reductions
By replacing fossil fuels, biogas helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Waste management
Anaerobic digestion reduces the accumulation of organic waste and minimises environmental pollution.
Clean energy production
Biogas is used to generate electricity and heat, and can be a clean fuel source for a variety of applications.
Diversification of the energy matrix
It contributes to diversifying the energy matrix, which increases energy resilience.
Uses of Biogas
Electricity generation
It is burned in engines or turbines to generate electricity that can power homes and businesses.
Heating and cooling
Biogas is used in heating and cooling systems, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Vehicle fuel
It can be used as a fuel in compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.
Injection into the Natural Gas grid
The purified biogas is injected directly into the natural gas grid for use in households and industry.
Biogas upgrading refers to the process of purifying biogas into biomethane, a purer form of gas that meets natural gas quality standards. This allows it to be injected directly into the gas grid or used as a fuel in a variety of applications.
At Verxo we offer biogas upgrading services to ensure that your biogas is of the highest quality and utility.
